Ski Review: 2008 Radar MPD Slalom Ski

A unique and very high- performance slalom ski, the test team found the Radar MPD to be somewhat of an enigma. The ski does not feel fast across the lake but it actually generates more than enough speed and width. It does not feel unsteady or radical through the finish of the turn, but it changes direction very quickly and decisively. What is clear is the extra-wide path the MPD draws in front of the buoy.

One of the keys to the MPD's performance is that it carries substantial water speed through the turn. By lessening the need for deceleration before that ball, as well as acceleration after the ball, the MPD reduces the skier's impression of speed and the amount of effort exerted.

Most skiers will feel at home on the MPD, regardless of style. Those who are strong behind the boat and calm at the ball will find the ski's true potential. The MPD's ability to create and maintain angle across the lake allows the skier to make mistakes and still get the next ball early.

“The MPD provided the best turns on any ski I have ever skied on. The acceleration across the wakes was what you needed it to be … fast or, if you wanted to push it hard, even faster.” — Brad Wolfe

“This ski is for the skier who is aggressive behind the boat, but at the same time patient from the pre-turn to the finish. It will reward the patient/aggressive skier with all of the angle you can hold, excellent symmetry on both sides of the course and the ability to make up time.” — Bill Barton

“This ski is a high-end performance rocket without all the loud noise of a muscle car! Meaning that the ski is deceptive and pretty much a sleeper!” — Bradley Beach
