Made of 100-percent pure carbon fiber and weighing under 3 lbs., the Goode 9200 is the lightest slalom ski on the market. It also happens to be the co-world-record holder of the men's slalom event. New for 1999, the 9200 features a rubber dampening layer that allows the ski to be more forgiving through the wakes and in rough water. Goode builds its skis according to skier profile, which depends on skier height, weight, boat speed and line length. Depending on the skier's needs, there is a soft, medium and firm flex pattern available. Goode offers two different binding options: traditional rubber high-wrap bindings or the Goode PowerShell System II, which is a hard-shell binding system. The 9200 was tested with double high wraps. The test team found the 9200 to be an extremely fast-accelerating ski with average ranks in terms of stability. If you're looking for a new ski this season that will get you from buoy to buoy with less effort, the 9200 should be a top choice.
Test Team Comments:
Doug: Very fast with little effort from the skier. Because it rides higher in the turn than any other ski tested, it required work on my off-side turn. Tweak: increased tip to help with rotation on off-side turn.
Rhoni: One of the fastest-accelerating skis that I rode. Quick edge changes. It searched for an edge in my glide for the gates. Tweak: moved fin back for stability.
Bret: Required the least amount of effort to get across the course. I had a little trouble finishing the turn, but the acceleration makes up for it. A little unstable after the edge change, but overall, it's user friendly.
Tweak: stock settings.
Brandon: The acceleration of the ski is great. Tweak: lowered the tip of the fin to help the ski finish the turn with good angle on my off-side turn.
Todd: Awesome acceleration behind the boat with minimal effort from the skier. Not as stable as some of the other skis tested, but its quickness made up for it. Tweak: Increased tip for symmetry of turns.
