Good News for Big Guys

Believe it or not, the more you weigh, the easier it will be for you to go from the short rope to longline. I've had a few guys come through my school and met a couple at clinics who could have played offensive line for the Packers. They went 300 pounds-plus and never felt comfortable on the boom extension. It was literally a relief for them to get 75 feet

behind the boat.

The reason? First, it's difficult for heavier footers to arch their backs, which is necessary on the short rope but not as crucial behind the boat. Plus, the transition from deepwater position to standing on the water happens quickly off the extension. Behind the boat it's more gradual, and the bigger fellas appreciate anything that allows 'em to take their time. (And no, putting lead weights in your shorts won't make the longline easier for you 140 pounders.)
