Spend enough time flipping through 20 years' worth of magazines and you will eventually feel something in your eyes and throat.
Believe me.
That little something grows so strong as you muse over the tight shorts and feathered hair that you will pry yourself from your chair, clear your throat and go find a Kleenex. You'll look in the mirror, sniff and think, “Magazines collect a lot of dust in 20 years.”
The first issue of WaterSki (at the time it was called World WaterSkiing) was put on the shelf before the artist formerly known as Prince was ever known as Prince. It was before anyone had ever heard of MTV, AIDS or ESPN; before Magic Johnson or Larry Bird had played a game in the National Basketball Association; before Muhammad Ali's last fight; before Rocky III and E.T.; before stock market analysts gave nods to Nike or Microsoft; before Coke became New or Classic; before the VW Bug became new or classic; before Ronald Reagan was a challenger to Jimmy Carter; before Wal-Mart overtook Kmart; and before anyone ever thought that we'd be looking back at everything you're about to see – for the first time or again.
