Welcome to Farmer City, Illinois – it's not what you would typically think of as a great water ski location. But somewhere within the cornfields of Illinois lies The Liquid Edge, a MasterCraft dealer and water ski and wakeboard lake all in one.
How It Started
When owner Doug Meeker bought the lake alongside the interstate in the middle of Illinois, he saw it as a perfect place for his family and friends to practice water skiing. But as soon as Meeker and his friends hit the water, they started to draw attention. “People would pull off the interstate just to see what we were doing and ask for lessons,” Meeker says. “Every day more and more people would just stop by. It started out as a small thing, and I started giving lessons on the side. I never thought it would turn into this.”
Now four years later, Meeker's spot offers slalom, wakeboard and barefoot lessons every day of the week. The Liquid Edge also hosts the occasional tournament and holds clinics by pros like Marcus Brown and Wade Cox. It attracts skiers from as close as Michigan to as far as Brazil, and even University of Illinois football coach Ron Zook has been seen frequenting these Midwest waters.
Skier and Dealer
One of the most unique aspects about The Liquid Edge is the MasterCraft dealer and pro shop available to all water enthusiasts right on-site. “The distance between the pro shop to the water's edge is about 15 feet,” Meeker says. “It doesn't matter if it's just a life jacket with all the stickers still on it or a brand-new slalom ski, customers can go jump in the water and try it out. We're all active participants on the water. You normally don't walk into a boat shop where there's no one in the shop because they're all out on the water.”
Sets Apart
According to Meeker, there is no other location quite like The Liquid Edge in the Midwest. “When you're out here, you really get a mix of true water enthusiasts and slalom geek perspectives all in one,” he says.
