Site to Ski: Seseña Ski & Wake

Located a mere 30 minutes south of the capital city of Madrid in Spain, Seseña Ski & Wake is situated in an area known for its beautiful, sunny weather. Not surprisingly, this was the site of the 2008 Senior World Water Ski Championships, with over 29 countries represented.

Site
The Seseña training center has two perfectly designed, world-class and world-record-capable ski lakes for slalom, jump and tricks. Each is between 650 and 660 meters in length, 80 meters wide and constructed with high ridges and spongy banks to facilitate all levels and avenues of skiing, from combo ski rookies to shortline pros. Seseña Ski & Wake also recently constructed a clubhouse with locker rooms, a solarium and a refreshment area. Other amenities include a terrace with lake views and beach volleyball.

Personalized Attention
In the true spirit of love for the sport, Seseña created a variety of programs to best facilitate every skier. A seasoned, well-versed staff is on hand to make reserving sessions an effortless process. “I have been to Seseña on numerous occasions now, and every experience there has been a great one,” says Nicole Arthur, 2007 Worlds woman’s slalom champion. “I have trained there, and it has really helped me with my preparation before tournaments.” Not only do you get top-notch coaching, but the site also offers visitors the use of current year model boats with up-to-date speed control systems.

Where to Stay
Though Seseña doesn’t yet offer on-site accommodations, the Botas family, which runs Seseña Ski & Wake, recommends at least eight nearby properties, ranging in affordability. Also, with Toledo and Madrid only half an hour away, many more lodging facilities are available to suit all of your housing needs.

The Family
Ricardo Botas, owner and head coach of the water ski school, has a tendency to weave his family into his deep passion for water skiing. His wife, Cristina Medem, and two daughters, Nadine and Sandra, are all champion water skiers. Medem’s accomplishments include 25 Spanish championship titles, as well as the Spanish slalom record holder. She no doubt perfected her skills at the family-run Seseña. Botas is also one of the top three event drivers in the world.
