Pullout: On Top of the World

After setting the new world trick record with 9,690 points, we asked Natallia Berdnikava how she managed to pull off such an incredible feat. “Everything, from my preparation and performance to my final scores, is dependent on fitness. To stay in shape, my 30-minute workouts consist of a warm up on a stationary bike or elliptical, and then I do a variety of exercises like lunges, core strengthening, straight-arm lifts, single-leg squats and leg presses. I also use a medicine ball or Bosu to help improve my balance.

Having great coaches was also a major factor. My first coach, Genov Arkadiy from Belarus, showed me all of the basics when I was very young, and he continues to build upon my training. Jon, Chris and Jack Travers have also helped me out. Jack can tell you one simple thing to fix a problem right away. In 2008, I met Camilo Espinosa. He’s truly passionate about the sport and encourages me to ski to my fullest potential.”
