Waterski Costa Rica
Waterski Costa Rica is my winter water skiing hub. It’s located in a tropical paradise, and the country and resort both have a really relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. The ski site alone is enough of a reason to head down there: they have two beautiful freshwater lakes and a brand-new Ski Nautique. And from the docks you can actually see a perfectly shaped conical volcano – sometimes even with lava flowing down the sides. Outside of skiing, they have lots of other fun activities to check out. There are zip lines through the rain forest, river cruises, hot springs and tons of wildlife – everything from sloths to howler monkeys. – Nick Parsons
Where: North Central Costa Rica, near the town of La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano.
When to go: Open from November through May.
Accommodations: Guests stay in the six-bedroom, 9,000 square-foot Villa Buena Vida, which is built around a large indoor pool.
Getting there: Guests are transported to and from San Jose International Airport via a luxury tour bus.
