Over the last decade, wakesurfing has gone from passing fad to legitimate competitive sport, with tournaments featuring entrants like six-time world wakesurfing skim-style champ Drew Danielo. The 31-year-old from Venice, Florida, took the top prize of $3,000 at the Centurion 2011 World Wake Surfing Championship held in Parker, Arizona, last September, with moves like backside big-spin 360s. “The sport is definitely on the rise,” Danielo says. “Most of us in the pro division got into [it] when we were older, and some of the young kids that I see now are crushing it. Wakesurfing is going to be like skateboarding, where people throw stuff and you can’t even believe what they just did.”
