Has it motivated you to push a little harder in the course because of Whitney McClintock recently equaling your former world-record of 2@41 off that you set last September?
When Karina Nowlan first tied Kristi’s [Overton-Johnson] world record, it sent a huge spark off inside me. I feel like me and Karina together really pushed women slalom skiing to the next level. Competition is great, and without it I would not have a PB of 3@41.
How do you balance your water ski training with your career as pharmacist? (Regina owns Emerald Coast Compounding Pharmacy in Destin, Florida)
My coach Cory Pickos is extremely supportive of my skiing and career. Cory and the staff at the Pickos World Ski Resort get up early and pull me before I go to work, and also stick around after ski school shuts down, so I ski right before dark. It’s difficult, though. I get up and ski at seven, work nine hours at the store, and then try to muster up enough energy for another ski set. While my competition has already done four to five sets in all three events, I’m skiing at twilight for my second set.
