For the last 10 years the Diablo Pro Am in Brentwood, California, has been one of water skiing’s premiere events. This year was no exception. Mostly sunny skies, light wind, and highs in the mid-80s setup the good vibes and helped some competitors reach near-record level performances. Examples? First time in pro water skiing’s history that two skiers have run 41 off. Both Nate Smith and Will Asher bagged one buoy at 43 off (for newbies to the sport: 43 off is about five feet shorter than the reach of the boat pylon to the turn buoy) in the second round of qualifying. And, Regina Jaquess was just two buoys shy of her world record.
