TRX is a suspension training system, originally developed by Fitness Anywhere for U.S. Navy SEALs so they can stay fit and get their workouts in wherever they may be. It’s that kind of portability that caught Jason McClintock’s eye: He can attach it to a lakeside tree and get a full-body stretch before skiing. “I use the TRX because I’m able to do a very dynamic, movement-oriented warm-up while using my body weight to really get a good stretch to every muscle group,” McClintock says. “It lets me move from exercise to exercise in a fluid manner so I can be warmed up and ready to ski in under 10 minutes.” Jason typically finds a tree in the shade and wraps a rope around the trunk or a branch overhead. He has a daily TRX routine that hits all the muscle groups: “I focus on getting my hips and back loose and ready to work. I do some lower-backextension- type exercises to mimic my hip connection to the handle. I feel like I get the best stretch through my back by incorporating row-type movements and really letting my back relax at the end of the rep before activating my muscle again,” he says. McClintock says the TRX has added structure to his warm-up, and has the added benefit of providing a full-strength workout when he’s on the road. “My TRX is always with my ski equipment, and my equipment is always with me, so I can set up and get my workout in pretty much anywhere.”
