When Mike and Kim Budreau started skiing, it was a very social afair. As they progressed, however, that slowly began to change. “You start to find some success in tournaments,” Mike says, “and things begin to get more serious. We started training on private lakes, and before we knew it, that was all our skiing consisted of.” Initially, when the Budreaus received the invitation from Marcus, they thought there was no chance they could attend. “After all,” Mike says, “I had tournaments to train for.” After some more thought, however, Mike and Kim were on board. “It was truly an incredible experience. To break out of the mold of our typical ski lives was an awakening experience for us all.”
Olympic snow skier Errol Kerr was as accomplished an athlete as anyone on the trip. “Watching the movements that Marcus is able to make on his ski is humbling,” Kerr says. “I’ve skied a while, but I was stuck at 2 ball. It really made me respect what these guys do.” The isolation of Lake Powell appealed to Kerr. “No cell service, no schedules, no responsibility — it was a great way for all of us to disconnect and really find ourselves. The chance to blow the world of for a week doesn’t present itself often, and it may have been the best part of the whole trip.”–Story by Trent Finlayson/Photos by billdoster.com
