It's easier to perform inverted moves on the Air Chair than in any other discipline of skiing. The jumps are bigger, the landings are softer, and the reaction from onlookers is heads turning, fingers pointing and jaws dropping. More good news is that getting air on the Chair is not wake-dependent. With some practice it's no problem to launch a “wakeless” air trick in the trough, out wide or anywhere in between.
I was the first person to perform the front-side roll in 1992. It was an easy transition for me, having mastered the move on a kneeboard and slalom ski. The frontside roll is a side-over-side inverted move that allows me to spot the landing early in the rotation. It is different from the backside roll in that the sideways rotation is initiated with the shoulders moving down and to the front instead of back and away.
Tony Klarich recently swept the Pro Open division at the first Air Chair Worlds. The newly crowned world champ is continuing to work on new tricks on his chair and wakeboard.
