Butter Slide

The butter slide is the most “wakeboardish” move of all because it's pure soul. Instead of resting or just cruising behind the boat between moves, show some style.

The first key to this move is to slow the boat a little bit from your normal riding speed. You can butter-slide from either side of the wake, but it's easiest to approach on a toe-side edge and slide your back foot toward the boat. If you approach on the heel-side edge, you should concentrate more on pulling your front foot away from the boat. Either way, just approach the wake slowly and pop, or “ollie,” your board onto the wake so it's perpendicular to the rope. It's important to keep the edge closest to the boat up, but don't lean back to do it. Just angle your feet. From this position you can control yourself and maintain the butter-slide position as long as you feel stylish. For variation, try rocking more onto the nose or tail of the board as you slide.
