How many times have you established great leveraged positioning behind the boat and then, during the pre-turn, given back all of the angle that you've worked so hard to achieve? Here are a few tips that will help you stay wide in the course. by Todd Ristorcelli
This is Wade Cox giving it a rip. From his leaning edge to his turning edge, all of the angle that he achieved behind the boat is being transitioned outward. As his knees come up, the ski is being pushed out in front of him.
Look at how he is able to keep the handle in close to his body by using outside arm pressure. Direction is maintained by not allowing the shoulders to rotate inward toward the boat.
What a great job he did of casting the ski out wide while maintaining his direction going outward. His hips are up, and he's perfectly balanced over the ski. Wade is now setting up for a smooth and controlled release of the handle.
Wade's arm is now fully extended to the pylon. Look at the nice arc that he created into the buoy. His outside hip and thigh are now rotating to complete the turn.
This is the payback of maintaining your angle through the pre-turn. Good rotation with a nice, tight turn on the ball.
