Increased Angle

Use of the knees and leverage position behind the boat.

Andy Mapple is not only one of the best slalom skiers of all time, but he is also a perfect example of the slalom style of the '90s – and beyond. One area of Andy's skiing that deserves special attention is the way he bends his knees to maximize leverage, especially through the entrance gates. By Gordon Rathbun

Standing relatively tall on his coast toward the gates, Andy prepares to attack the course. He then bends his knees progressively as he crosses the wake, while maintaining a low center of gravity. By bending his knees progressively, Andy is able to delay leverage and obtain maximum angle behind the boat rather than out near the buoy.
