Little Advice, Big Spray

Recreational slalom skiers looking to make a big splash – literally – try to lie on the tail too much out of the turn. While this can throw up a droplet-filled wall of spray, it's nothing compared to what you can do with more ski in the water. Today's high-performance slalom skis are designed to turn most effectively when three-quarters or more of the ski carves through the water.

To keep the ski tip down in the turn, try to put more pressure on the front of the ski by keeping your knees pushed forward into and throughout the turn. Push your knees forward as far as your ankles will bend. The more you push, the better the carving action – and the bigger the spray. – Mike Kjellander
