Refresher Course: The 3-Point Stance

As much as it's stressed and as often as we teach it, few barefooters get the 3-point right. It's like using your turn signal. Everyone who drives knows they're supposed to do it, but too many bozos still don't.

The biggest problem people have is riding on their tailbones and letting their feet slide on the water. It's more natural to put the feet in the water.

The best place to tweak the position is on the boom. Make sure you're good and stretched so you can pull your feet back toward your hips with your knees together. As always, relax the feet and just let them skim the top of the lake.

If you think you're beyond this move, just remember: Even the best footers on earth still work on their 3-points. Or at least they should.
