Rig Tips

For those who care about looks …

If you trailer your boat more than a couple blocks, tape the front edging areas of the trailer fenders to prevent chipping from stones being kicked up from the rear tires of the tow vehicle. Cheap plastic tape can be purchased in various widths for this. Consider taping guidebars too.

Use furniture polish on the black fiberglass behind the windshield and on the vinyl part of the dash. The vinyl won't have as much gloss and glare as it would with an Armor-All type of protectant. This also makes it easy to touch up with a lightly dampened towel.

The spring pollen assault might have done a number on your engine. It's a good idea to wipe down the hoses, belts, exposed shaft and cables with Armor-All or similar protectant while the engine is near hot. This will help waterproof the parts and retard rust. Use a lightly dampened towel to wipe everything down later in the year, and the protectant will remain.
