When it comes to adding a grab to a trick, the same principles apply to wake-to-wake jumps as inverts. Grabs add style to an individual's riding and can be added to all tricks. The names given to most wakeboard grabs come from other board sports, from which wakeboarding has evolved.
1. Approach the wake with a progressive edge with weight on your toes and the handle oriented to your hip. A smooth approach to the wake will transcend throughout the trick.
2. Take the trick straight up off the wake. Be aggressive in pulling the handle to your hip with two hands to put you in control of the trick, then go for the grab with your rear hand.
3. Grab the board once you're in the air. Its helpful to look exactly where you're going to grab before you attempt this move. Bring the board to you! Bending your body for a grab will pull you out of proper body position.
4. Keep the handle as close to your hips as possible. This will allow you to control your rotation when performing an invert or a poke.
5. Let go of the board and prepare for your landing by looking at the horizon.
6. Bend your knees, and ride toward the shore.
