Despite what you may think, wakeboarding is all about control - controlling your body position on the water, in the air and on the landing. The key to this all comes down to proper handle position. The handle should always be oriented to your hips to help control your balance and rotation in every move you attempt.
Backside Method to Fakie:
1. Approach the wake with a good, smooth progressive edge, with weight on your toes and the handle at your hips.
2. Take the trick straight up, focusing on lifting off the wake first before anything else. Then go for the grab as soon as you leave the wake, keeping the handle as close to your hip as possible, for better control.
3. Focus on carrying the grab all the way through the trick. Do not try going to fakie before the landing - letting go with your lead hand and allowing your shoulders to rotate will cause you to go to fakie naturally.
4. After the peak of the trick, pull the handle to your rear hip. This will initiate your rotation to fakie.
5. keep your balance by looking at the horizon as you approach your landing. This will help keep your head up and the handle close to your hips, preparing you for a perfect landing.
6. Bend your knees and ride off into the sunset, you rock star.
