Come Closer

Don Mazziotti's 1992 MasterCraft ProStar 190 and 1993 Chevrolet Half-Back conversion van by Gladiator beg you to come closer. From this wide-angle shot you only get a taste of what the Eugene, Oregon, skier has pieced together during the last four years.

Upon closer inspection of the custom van, you'll note a 350 V-8 on a 3/4-ton heavy-duty suspension with both front and rear sway bars. Mazziotti peppered the inside with niceties like a 13-inch color TV and VCR in the center console and complemented it with a whopping sound system: interchangeable CD player with 6-inch Alpine two-way speakers and twin 8-inch Bazooka tubes, all powered by a 600-watt Alpine fan-cooled amp.

The MasterCraft is beefed-up too, and not just with the 285-horse PowerSlot. A heater, shower, Sony pull-out cassette stereo, 300-watt Kenwood amp and 10-inch Bazooka base tube keep things hot on cool Oregon water.

If you look even closer, you'll find that Mazziotti added matching custom-polished alloy rims by Weld Racing for both boat trailer and van, each appropriately engraved with “ProStar.”

Mazziotti finished off the tandem with a custom sticker on the 190's transom, using the phrase made popular by MasterCraft: “Nothing Else Even Comes Close.” With so much in this high-class rig, who could argue with him?
