In the past four years, there have been about four water ski videos to hit the market. During the last four months, there have been about 40 wakeboarding films. What gives? Action, thrills, spills, hang time and unbelievable scenery. Connelly has packaged it all into two new videos, Wakeboarding 201 and Misunderstood.
Wakeboarding 201 is, naturally, an extension of Wakeboarding 101, Connelly's first wakeboard instructional video. Using its stable of world-class high fliers – pro tour champion Parks Bonifay, Zane Schwenk and Jeremy Kovak – Connelly covers 20 of the top tricks seen on lakes around the world. Connelly spokesman and commentator Troy Navarro continues in his role as chief instructor, demonstrating each trick in detail.
In Misunderstood, the Connelly board team is at it again, only this time turning up the heat – and the action. Bonifay, Schwenk and Kovak join a host of other top riders in a thrill-packed tour of the USA, riding on everything from northern California's Lake Shasta to secluded private sites in Florida.
Our Assessment: Looking to mimic the moves of the top riders in the world? Then check out 201. The instructional video (30 minutes) hits the intermediate-to-advanced skill level of boarder, covering everything from going bigger on wake jumps to perfecting the S-Bend and Slurpee – tricks that only a handful of riders have ever mastered. To give you an idea where the lessons start, if you aren't ready for a backside back roll, you're not ready for 201.
Misunderstood (45 minutes) is a dream tape. You'll never make the moves look as easy as these guys do, but it's fun to dream. Great action footage from one of the industry's best filmmakers, Jordy Klein Jr.
Both videos are available through pro shops that carry Connelly, or by calling the factory (206-775-5416). Write them at 20621 52nd Ave. West, Lynwood, WA 98046. RS 158.
