Hyperlite Hooks Byerly

The paths of Scott Byerly and Hyperlite seem like they were bound to merge at some point. Byerly, the rider who many call the most innovative of the sport, and Hyperlite, the company that rolled out the first wakeboard eight years ago, shook hands on their endorsement deal in March.

Byerly had been without a board sponsor since September when he parted company with Wake Tech. Coincidentally, Hyperlite was looking to fill a hole after Darin Shapiro left to sign with O'Brien last summer.

“We haven't been in any panic to fill [Darin's] spot, just like Scott wasn't in any hurry to resign with another company,” says Paul O'Brien, Hyperlite's wakeboard division manager. “He had a lot of opportunities, some involving more money, but he said he considers it an honor to be with the company that started this whole thing.”

Word is, Hyperlite's R&D team will go to work with Byerly right away to produce his personal product line, including boards, boots and fins.
