Ski Racing Worlds; Amateur Ski Flying
7 At the 26th World Waterski Championships (Idroscalo, Italy, September 13-19) five-time overall champion Patrice Martin will be hoping to lead the French team to a third consecutive team title, while Sweden's Helena Kjellander will be looking to stretch her record run of slalom titles to five.
7 The United States and Australia are expected to vie for team honors at the 11th World Ski Racing Championships in Castellon, Spain. The Americans and defending champion Aussies have split the first 10 titles, winning five apiece. Lori Dunsmore of Boulder City, Nevada, is expected to compete in her seventh Worlds with a rod in her leg following a bad break that occurred at the second of three qualifying events.
7 Collegiate skiers head to a new Nationals site out West for the second straight year. Hosted by both Sacramento State and the Western Collegiate Conference, qualifying schools will compete on what's considered one of the finest man-made lakes in the country, Shortline Lakes.
7 It could be interesting to see if a longer rope, faster boat and modified ramp will do for amateur jumpers what they've done for the pros. Amateurs will be taking their first official crack at ski flying at a tournament on Lake Hollingswoth in Lakeland, Florida, October 16-17. The event is open for all age divisions between Boys 3 and Men 4, and Girls 3 and Women 4. There will be a free clinic for all contestants two days prior to the tournament.
