Q: I've recently bought a trick ski and need some advice. How should I mount the rear toe? Specifically, how will the proximity and angle of the rear toe to the front binding affect the ski's performance?

A: A good starting point is to establish the first screw hole of the upper right part of the toe piece just behind the heel of your front binder. (Left-foot-forward skiers will use the upper left binding hole.) Center the hole behind the front binding and mount the binding at a 45-degree angle. This should give you a good baseline from which to make minor adjustments. Having your feet close together allows proper knee bend and edge control. – David Benzel
