Never seen a slalom ski before? Want to try tricking? Looking to jump 200 feet? Searching for the key to off-side slalom turns on a short line? Then look no further than the Complete Guide to Water Skiing.

“Complete” is certainly a fair term here. Top slalom skier, nationally renowned ski school instructor and frequent WaterSki contributor Ben Favret dissects the sport, from its most basic items (combo and beginning slalom skiing) all the way to long-distance jumping and mental strategies for tournament skiing. The breadth of information is astounding, as Favret and co-author David Benzel (WaterSki's Head Coach author) don't miss a single piece of information about the sport, from technique to equipment to rules.

Of interesting note is that Complete is published by Human Kinetics (known for its expert approach to physical activity books), making it the first water skiing book to be included in the specialty publisher's fold.

Our assessment: There is no arguing that the Complete Guide to Water Skiing is the most comprehensive water skiing instructional book ever written. Beginner, intermediate and, yes, even national-caliber skiers have pages dedicated specifically to them. With over 250 pages, nearly 150 how-to photographs and numerous charts and graphs, the book should be a must-have for every skier who aspires to ski with confidence. The key is consumption; it's easy to get lost among the vast source of information on slalom, jump, tricks and even wakeboarding and kneeboarding. Read it over the course of a summer – not in a single sitting – and you'll notice improvement every time you hit the lake.
