WATERSKI MagazineGeorge Daniels showed the wakeboarding community that he could dominate in the Pro Men's Wakeskate competition while Robert Soven placed first in the Boys Division of the Vans WWA Wakeboard World Championships held at Orlando Watersports Complex this past weekend.
New to the pro circuit, Daniels won his first world championship with a score of 81.00 points, beating defending wakeskate world champion Brian Grubb by 3.67 points. Daniels, a senior at Boone High School recently signed on with Correct Craft's Team Nautique and has only been wakeskating for two years. A protégé of Scott Byerly, he became a wakeskater, coming out of a similar background in skateboarding.
Soven, the twelve-year-old brother of pro rider Phillip Soven, claimed his first world championship in the Boys Division, qualifying him for an invite to the 46th Masters Water Ski and Wakeboard Tournament, his favorite tournament. He scored 72.00 points, upsetting Reed Hansen, the Boys National Champion by 1.78 points.
