The Ski Nautique Big Dawg Championship

The finals of the Ski Nautique Big Dawg Championship held at the Isles of Lake Hancock in Winter Garden, Florida September 30 – October 1, was an all-out slugfest, as the best 34 mph slalom skiers in the world battled it out for a $10,000 purse. The slight head/tail wind provided the best possible conditions for athletes to post big scores on Sunday, with 39½ off being run a total of 13 times.

What started out as a 50-man field in the qualifying rounds was narrowed down to a 16-skier head-to-head finals. This exciting format is a true test of skill and endurance in the slalom course, and Dr. Mike Morgan of Odessa, Florida proved that he was the “iron man” of the event. Defeating 16th-seed Kyle Tate, ninth-seed and former World champion Lucky Lowe and fourth-seed Scott Tynan before matching up against Ben Favret in the final bracket, Morgan's physical stamina appeared unbeatable.

Morgan ran 39½ a total of four-times throughout the weekend and with a flawless downwind 39 in his final match-up, it was all he needed to take the title from Favre who scored five buoys at the 10.75m line length.

In the award's ceremony, an emotional Morgan said that he needed some time away from tournament skiing to spend more time with his family and to serve others.
