Skiing's New Focus

Athlete Focus lets you do more than just create a profile or get the dirt on your competition. OK, so we're not necessarily promising anything, but if you're hungry for a sponsor or looking to hobnob with the elite (i.e. Thomas Degasperi, Jeff Rogers and Trent Finlayson), you should probably check out athletefocus.com.

As an online community of athletes, the site lets you network and socialize, similar to MySpace or Facebook. It also provides a space for skiers (and other athletes) to find coaches, upcoming events and possibly even sponsors.

Athlete Focus' users quench their social networking cravings in a more exclusive, athletes-only community. Skiers can “find connections” on the site, a feature which lets you see who your friends are friends with and who you might also know, or want to get to know. Then you can send them a message, or even upload pictures or videos you have of them. Members also use the forums as their personal help line, seeking advice on the latest slalom gear or where to find the clearest lake. (If you head to forums.waterskimag.com, you'll also find these conveniences. Shameless plug? You betcha!)

One essential quality is that Athlete Focus puts you in control. There are categories where you can share everything from your goals to your musical influences, but it is all open to interpretation. Whether you're sponsored by Miller Lite, like one user, or your generous folks and/or family, like another, you're sure to find fans and friends alike.

So, regardless of if you are looking to go the professional route, and use your profi le to show off your stats and competition history, or if you just want a smaller virtual hangout that reflects the tightknit water-ski community, with Athlete Focus, what you do with it is completely up to you.
