Global Invitational Hits West Michigan June 26

The second annual Global Invitational water skiing and wakeboarding tournament will take place at Placid Waters in Allendale, Michigan, on June 26.

Professional water skiers from across the country along with the best regional wakeboarders will take to the water to qualify for a chance to win nearly $30,000 in prize money.

The second-year event happens at Placid Waters, Michigan’s only site with three competition lakes lined up adjacent to one another. Each of the contestants that move on from the qualifying rounds will compete on the center “Global Championship” lake in front of the crowd as we narrow the field to the final round and crown the winners.

“Based on how the inaugural Global Invitational went last year, we are extremely excited to bring back the best of the best water skiers and wakeboarders from around the world to Placid Waters and West Michigan,” event organizer Mike Broadwell says. “This year will be even bigger and better than last. The fans that attended last year were treated to the world’s best water skiing and wakeboarding participants and the non-stop action did not disappoint.”

Event attendees will also be able to demo new skis on Lake 3, walk over to Global Championship Lake to see the pros, and head over to Lake 3 to see how their friends are doing at the regional wakeboard competition.

Placid Waters has also added a fourth lake this spring with a cable wakeboarding park. The cable park will feature wakeboard demo rides for attendees and a rail jam competition for local wakeboarders.

“Global Marine Insurance is proud to be back as the title sponsor of the Global Invitational,” says Jim Stanley, Global Marine Insurance Marketing Manager. “We had such a great response from the inaugural Global Invitational that Global Marine Insurance was pleased to return again for this year’s event. Fans won’t want to miss it.”

“We had such fabulous momentum after the inaugural global invitational that I’m thrilled to be bringing this incredible event back to west Michigan,” says Jerry Brouwer, Action Water Sports owner and event creator. “The Global Invitation continues to grow every year, and we will definitely have some additional excitement for fans to enjoy. It’s a festival event that everyone will want to see, and it’s going to be great to see the best skiers come back to Placid Waters and take part in this one-of-a-kind event.”
