On July 31, 2010, Stereo Wakeskis in cooperation with Turncable in Thannhausen, Germany, will host the first-ever wake ski competition in Europe.
The competition will gather the best athletes of the new sport of wake skiing. The idea for wake skis came from the fast-growing twin-tip ski trend on snow, and Stereo Wakeskis’. mission is to transfer this culture to the water.
“The Stereo European Wake ski Open is an important step in developing wake skiing into a legit and independent sport” says Jens-Martin Johnsrud, CEO and
owner of Stereo Wakeskis. ”Wake skiing is growing rapidly, and besides the U.S., Germany is one of our most important markets. It is also the heart of cable wakeboarding in Europe with approximately 80 cable parks.”
Turncable in Thannhausen, which opened just last year, was our first choice when searching for a place to host this competition,” says Kristian Hvaara, Sales and Marketing Manager and owner of Stereo Wakeskis. ”They really believe in the future of this sport and were stoked that we wanted to use their site.”
The 2010 Stereo European Wake Ski Open is a cable competition and will take place on Turncable’s counter-clockwise cable. The athletes will be judged on their ability to utilize the whole setup, including rails, kickers and air tricks. Each trick will be scored by level of difficulty, height and style. The athlete who is able to combine this in the best way, will walk away with 500 Euro in prize money.
