Polk City, FL – USA Water Ski has selected Jonathan Travers from Groveland, Florida, and Erika Lang from Gilbert, Arizona, as Male Athlete of the Month and Female Athlete of the Month, respectively, for May. Travers and Lang are now eligible for the United States Olympic Committee’s Athlete of the Month honors. Travers, 23, won the first professional tournament title of his career, scoring 4.5 @ 39.5 to win men’s slalom at the 52nd Masters Water Ski Tournament. Travers earned a berth in the tournament based on his performance at the 2011 Masters Last Chance Qualifier tournament, where he scored a personal best of 4@41.
Lang, 15, won the junior women’s tricks title at the 19th Junior Masters Water Ski Tournament for the second consecutive year, scoring a Robin Lake course-record 8,420 points. Lang also set a pending Girls 3 (17 and under) national tricks record of 8,900 points on May 14 at the Florida Inboards Open in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.
USA Water Ski was formed in 1939 as a non-profit organization promoting water skiing in the United States. USA Water Ski is affiliated with the International Water Ski Federation (world governing body) and is recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and Pan-American Sports Organization as the national governing body of organized water skiing in the United States.
