RistoDon’t miss the Canadian Water Ski Championships, taking place at the Lakes of Kastynstone, hosted by Water Ski Wakeboard Alberta and Predator Bay Water Ski Club, August 13th – 16th, 2012.
On August 17th, 2012, Predator Bay Waterski Club and Water Ski Wakeboard Alberta will host the inaugural Calgary Pro Waterski Shoot-Out, Calgary Alberta, Canada (www.calgaryprowaterski.com). The event will see some of the best waterski jumpers and slalom skiers in the world battle it out for over $65,000 in prize money.
Water Ski Jumping consists of a skier reaching speeds of up to 90 km (70mph), hitting a 6ft high, 22ft long ramp and flying over 230 feet through the air! Water Ski Slalom consists of a skier turning around 6 buoys, set equally apart at 38 feet from the boat path. Reaching speeds of up to 60 mph and creating insane angles across the wakes; the rope doesn’t even reach the buoy, up to 6 feet shorter – it’s amazing to watch their reach!
The event will host athletes from around the world, it will be the 2nd stop on this year’s World Ski Fly Tour (www.wsftalliance.com), which will culminate in Orlando, Florida in October at the Rocketman Night Jump event.
Among the athletes competing for the $65,000 in cash will be Canadian National Team Members; Whitney McClintock, Breanne Dodd and Karen Stevens, National Jump Champion Kole Magnowski, National Slalom Champion Thomas Moore and Ryan Dodd, who recently won the 53rd US Masters Championships in Jump. World Jump Champion “The Nightmare” Freddy Krueger from the USA will also be competing, along with Australian Slalom Champion Karina Nowlan, number one ranked Slalom skier Aaron Larkin from New Zealand, Jonathan Travers from the USA and also from the USA, Nate Smith, Moomba Masters Slalom & US Masters Slalom Champion at just 21 years old.
Over 40 Pro athletes will be competing for the cash and the glory. Spectators will have the luxury of laying witness to the world’s best skiers at one of the most picturesque sites in the world right in front of the jump landing zone! Calgary Food Trucks will be on site for great food & beverage!
This FREE event just 10 minutes south of Calgary will begin with the Semi-Final round at 12:00 pm on August 17th, 2012. The top 8 Mens Jumpers and Slalom Skiers and the Top 6 Women Slalom Skiers will compete for top spots. An action packed afternoon will conclude with a head to head style ‘Shoot Out’ of the top skiers at around 3 pm.
