The BallofSpray Atlanta ProAm Water Ski Tournament Returns to Atlanta’s Princeton Lake Memorial Day Weekend

Annual professional tournament brings the sport’s top athletes from around the globe to compete for prize money and interact with fans.

Atlanta – The BallofSpray Atlanta ProAm Water Ski Tournament is returning to Princeton Lake, located in southwest Atlanta, for the second consecutive year this Memorial Day Weekend. Top professional slalom water skiers are coming from all over the world to the “Biggest City in the South” to compete alongside nationally ranked amateur water skiers from all over the U.S. May 24th-27th.

Five different divisions with 84 skiers will compete over the three day weekend with hopes to reach the finals which will be held on Monday. The professional skiers will compete for cash prizes and elite points while the amateurs fight to improve their national rank.

Days prior to the Friday of the event, BallofSpray is hosting a “Baller Bash” – an opportunity for skiers to come to Princeton Lake and demo products from multiple water ski companies. Any level of water skier is welcome to demo the latest and greatest 2013 competition water skis with a factory representative and professional slalom coach in the boat to help set the ski up for its best performance.

In addition to the water ski demos, many of the 2013 approved competition ski boats will be on site for all spectators, competitors, and the general public to view and water ski behind…so be sure to bring your bathing suit!

Online entry for the Atlanta ProAm is located at the USA Water Ski website and will be open to all levels of skiers on Thursday, January 24th at 3:00pm EST.  Only 20 entries will be accepted per day of competition, so sign up early to reserve your slot.  Details for each day of the four day tournament can be found under Events and Registration tab on the USA Water Ski website.

Competitive slalom skiing requires skiers to navigate around six buoys on the water at boat speeds of 34mph or 36mph depending on the division.  After a successful completion through the slalom course, the ski rope is shortened by pre-determined lengths, making it increasingly difficult to ski around all six buoys. The buoys are 37 ½ feet wide of the boat forcing skiers to generate speeds up to 70mph and use their body length, reach, and sheer determination to get around the buoys at the shorter rope lengths.

The Atlanta ProAm is a family event that all ages can enjoy and is free to the general public.  Multiple food and beverage vendors will be on site as well as a “Walk for Life” around the lake fund raiser to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, sponsored by Team Dan Gealy .
