Dream Sets: Providenciales, Turks and Caicos

Doug Camozzi of Nautique Sports first invited me to Providenciales (Provo) about two years ago, but the uncertainty of ocean skiing kept me away until this spring. One of eight inhabited islands among a total of 40 in the British territory of Turks and Caicos, Provo attracts water-sports enthusiasts from around the world. From the clear view of the ocean floor through its depths to its level surface connecting seamlessly with seven miles of Provo’s deserted coastline, the water of Pine Cay completely inverted my old perception that the ocean isn’t a place to ski.

  1. So Beautiful! I can only see the last photo, but that water is amazing and having a skier on it is even better!

How was the boat? Was the wake small? And how did you find the boat and driver?

Nautique Sports has two MasterCraft Barefoot 200s. It's an outboard boat, but it actually pulled the jump event on the Pro Tour back in the late 80s. The wake is small and easy to cross for all levels of skiers, but don't expect epic skiing conditions. Even when the seas are calm, there's a gentle roll in the water. But that shouldn't stop you from enjoying one of the beautiful open-water places to ski in the world. Pro skiers Billy Susi and Thomas Moore had no problems carving aggressive turns in the turquoise water. You can expect good driving from USA Water Ski certified instructors, and they know all the right places to find you the best water on the island depending on wind direction. My adventure on Provo was an experience I'll never forget!
