Video: Geno Yauchler Sets Hydrofoil Record

WaterSki magazine photographer Bill Doster was on hand this morning as Geno Yauchler set the record for the most inverts in one hour on a Sky Ski (sit-down hydrofoil water ski) on Lake Eloise in Winter Haven, Florida. Yauchler completed 826 flips in an hour, setting the record on his 38th birthday.

Yauchler reclaimed the record from Bill Von Zabern, who on Nov. 3, 2008, completed 711 flips on a Sky Ski in an hour and then went on to perform 3058 in 6 and a half hours without stopping.

Yauchler set his original record of 529 flips on March 23, 2008, in England.

Is this fun to do? im 39 and used to waterski in my 20's. I was OK. I could get up w one ski and ski but I was nothing special. The sitting down and cruising looks pretty sweet. Is this easy?

Tim - this is a very fun sport for all ages, but is not as easy as people think. It doesn't take much physical strength to get up on it like water skiing, but doing huge flips and combos can really take it out of you. I am also surprised at how much I use my legs while cutting hard through the wakes. You wouldn't think so, but keeping yourself from buckling over takes some effort when you rail across them.

Jimmy - is this THE Jimmy Redmon, as in the guy who co-invented wake boarding? thanks for all the positive comments. Looking for more good stuff in 2010!
