Photo Gallery: Tom Brantley's Monster Crash

The skier who first used the words “yard sale” to describe a nasty water ski crash couldn’t have been more descriptive. Water ski pictures like these — when Tom Brantley got worked at last year’s Malibu Pro in Abbotsford, British Columbia — clearly illustrate that a good water ski crash can leave your ski gear scattered over great distances. “Knowing I really needed to run 39 to advance to the finals, I was running late in the pass when I threw my ski around five ball for a big turn and, instead, started a crash that seemed to go on forever,” says Brantley. “After my bindings released, I flipped, bounced and slid even with six ball. It was really a long swim back to my ski after my breath was knocked out, and I wasn’t really sure where I was.”
