The Bahamas

What would you think if you knew Nassau was the training ground for future Hall of Famer Camille Duvall?

Well, don't mistake Duvall's off-season headquarters as anything other than a faraway spot for open-water skiing and wakeboarding fun. The north side of the Bahamas has offered conditions good enough for companies like O'Brien to take its team of riders for photo shoots, and the area can be found in the book, Ski in Paradise, for being among the top 10 sites in the Caribbean.

“The crescent shape of the beach area makes it less typical of an ocean island and a little closer to what you'd expect in a private lagoon,” says Ski in Paradise author Paul Matthews.

Open-water skiing and wakeboarding are the options, and don't expect anything more sophisticated than an 18-foot Wellcraft to tow you. With the exception of one all-time great, skiers don't come to the Bahamas to train.

So if you go, go for a totally exotic experience and arrange for a trip to Blue Lagoon Island. Here you take a career-high off the wake only to see a dolphin steal your glory a few feet away.
