At first glance, the Calabria Pro Comp XTS may look like a traditional three-event competition tow boat. Take a closer look, however, and you'll discover a number of qualities that you won't find on boats built for nothing more than trips through the buoys.
The XTS is built for all-event, all-water skiing. Much like a high-end sport-utility vehicle, it's able to perform in a variety of conditions and is as much at home on the choppy waters of a public reservoir as on the glassy waters of a private ski lake. Instead of the rough-riding, flat-bottomed hulls favored by traditional competition boats, the XTS rides on a deep-V hull designed to break up rough water. Special running surfaces lift the hull to reduce water drag, increase top speed and enhance fuel economy.
The boat's V-shaped keel also enhances tracking ability, providing more lateral surface area than the add-on fins common to most inboard designs. To temper skiing wakes and increase lift and stability, the rear section of the hull transitions from a V to a virtually flat planing pad.
Another design feature unique to the XTS and its open-bow sibling, the Sport Comp XTS, is the placement of the fuel tank. While most inboard builders place the fuel tank in the stern, where it draws the stern down, Calabria moves the tank forward into the hull's midsection to create a more balanced running profile.
Moving the fuel tank forward created another benefit: The entire stern section is now free to house an oversize transom locker without sacrificing rear-seat comfort or legroom.
With its angled observer's seat and open interior, the XTS is a true six-passenger, all-day ski boat. The closed-bow storage area, transom locker and in-floor cooler offer ample storage space – not only for skis, boards and accessories, but also for clothing, snacks and other necessities for an exciting and enjoyable day on the water.
