Calabria Sport Comp VTS VideoWSM: What buyers should be looking at this boat?
Calabria: We are marketing this as the best V-drive on the market. It?s aimed at the family who wants a lot of room so they can be in the boat all day. At the same time, this family wants water-sports performance. This is the same hull as our wakeboarding boat, the Cal Air Pro-V, so even without the tanks they can have a world-class wakeboard wake. For the size of the boat you still have extremely respectable slalom capabilities, so it?s really an all-around family boat designed with performance skiing in mind.
Where does this boat excel?
This boat really excels in its maneuverability. It?s really the standout feature because V-drives aren?t supposed to handle this well. Even when the boat is weighted down with a lot of people, you can virtually get inboard performance out of it. Another thing that must be pointed out is the fact that it has a 65-gallon fuel tank.
Do you use any special construction features or innovations?
We have a construction system that no one else in the market uses. Our one-piece liner system bonds to the hull itself with space-age adhesive, then it is fiberglassed in all the way around the perimeter of the boat. All the voided areas are filled with structural and flotational foam. This makes for a boat that is extremely solid. What creates structural rigidity in any boat made from fiberglass is a radius. So when you have a liner system like this and you have sealed void areas, you have all these different radiuses in the liner system that encompasses the stringer and your floors. It is extremely solid and it won?t vibrate or jar people going through the double-up. We also integrate a layer of Coremat around the perimeter of the boat for hull density and sound dampening characteristics. All the boats are hand laid, 100-percent composite. The gelcoat application is all done in the mold.

Slalom
Mid-level to high-end slalom skiers won?t be too impressed with the slalom wakes because they carry some size and they?re consistently hard from long-line through 35 off. Experienced slalom drivers won?t be into the high positioning of the throttle armrest. If wakeboarding is your top priority and you?re into an occasional recreational slalom set, then the VTS Sport Comp will be alright.
Wakeboard
Clearly this is a wakeboarding machine. Unweighted, it gives a good, solid, V-drive type wake, but throw a couple sacs in the rear storage compartments and you are riding on world-class plus! It tracks like a train and is solid as can be. This boat has a great tower, a huge, solid platform and an incredible ballast system optional to turn this into a high-class, insane wakeboard boat.
Comments
The Sport Comp VTS is as wide as a ski boat is going to get. At a busty 102? wide, there?s room for the whole family and more. It?s got so much room in the cockpit you feel lonely if you don?t have at least six passengers. It has posh 40-oz. carpeting throughout its luxury interior.
Summary
SummarySlide into the helm of this richly appointed masterpiece and you?ll forget you have the ability to create some of the world?s best wakeboarding wakes. The Sport Comp VTS is as wide as boats in this class can be, but it doesn?t lose any handling. In fact, we were really surprised at how well this big boat handles in both tight quarters and on the open water. Creature comforts abound throughout the classy monotone interior. It?s plush as can be, with good netting and padding throughout. Its sharp, wood-grain dash and classy steering wheel make the statement that this is a quality boat. Calabria held nothing back on this one.
