WATERSKI MagazineThe MariStar 205 is a logical – and successful – extension of the ProStar 205 V-drive project. Based on the popular ProStar 205 hull and sharing a rear-engine, V-drive configuration with the closely related ProStar 205 V and X-Star, the 205 VRS is designed to appeal to upscale buyers who want a touch of luxury combined with uncompromising skiing performance.
In keeping with the MariStar tradition of luxury, the MariStar 205 VRS has a number of upscale touches on the interior. Textured, multicolored vinyl, multi-density seat padding and rich trim details proclaim this boat as more than just another tournament tow rig.
Looks aside, this smallest member of the MariStar line is definitely built for skiers. In keeping with its ProStar heritage, it is a competition-capable tow boat that has earned AWSA approval for non-record tournaments.
In fact, our test team found that the MariStar 205 delivered the same level of slalom performance as the ProStar 205V and, when loaded to capacity, boarding wakes that approached the company's specialty X-Star in terms of both size and shape. In short, the 205 VRS is a high-end, highly versatile ski boat wearing the trappings of a luxury cruiser.
The MariStar 205 VRS boasts a number of trim and upholstery upgrades that set it apart from its MasterCraft counterparts. In addition a six-speaker Clarion stereo is included as standard equipment. Raise the electrically controlled hydraulic engine hatch and you may encounter yet one more MariStar difference. The 205 VRS comes standard with a 330-hp Vortec MX MAX with multi-port fuel-injected engine. But owners have the option of selecting either a 340-hp Corvette LT-1 power plant or the sophisticated 4.6-liter, 32-valve Cadillac Northstar engine with phased-port EFI. This marinized version of the famous Northstar power plant is available exclusively on MariStar boats.
With any of these engine options, the 205 VRS delivers ample speed, acceleration and low-end torque for all skiing disciplines. It's a good choice for all-event skiers and water-sports enthusiasts who also enjoy cruising, entertaining and the joy of owning and operating a well-appointed powerboat.
