MasterCraft ProStar 19 Skier Video
WSM: Who is this boat best suited for?
MasterCraft: Two uses ? first and primary is that it is a hardcore ski boat. The second is, if you have a lake house or a boat that?s going to be used by kids, the Prostar 19 doesn?t have many breakable features. To say it?s for an entry-level buyer is not fair because the price is around $27,000. It?s not an entry-level boat where it?s going to compete with a $15,000 to $20,000 product. It?s more of a purist?s boat ? for someone who primarily likes to slalom ski. This buyer is looking for a solid boat with a lot of quality that will last him a lifetime. He wants to have a world-record-capable hull that?s USA Waterski-approved but doesn?t need all of the amenities like a cooler in the floor or a fancy dash.
The 19 Skier is really utilitarian in nature. If you like to slalom ski but don?t need all the frills or if you just don?t want to spend what you would for a 190, which is in the 33 to 35,000 range, the 19 Skier is a way to slalom at the highest level. It?s a great boat for people with a second home on a lake. It?s an easy boat to maintain ? there?s not a whole lot that can go wrong as far as features are concerned. It?s pretty simple in nature, yet it still has everything every other MasterCraft has in terms of its construction. This was the 1997 Prostar 190. Just four years ago this exact hull design was our tournament boat. It has pulled 12 world records altogether. This hull has set more world records than any other hull we?ve made.
What could improve it?
The ProStar 190 became wider and longer in 1998. This year?s is much wider in the inside with less running surface on the outside because of the stepped hull design. The 19 Skier is still a great slalom boat because it is basically flat at the transom. It enters at about 26 degrees and flattens out to six degrees at the back. It has electronic fuel injection standard, so you are going to get instant throttle response and great acceleration. This boat is difficult to pull down when compared to a similar boat that is carbureted. Other boats in a similar price range usually use carbureted engines, but we feel we?ve put the best of everything in this particular boat and didn?t skimp on the engine.
What are this boat?s outstanding features?
The best aspect of this boat is that you can have as good or better slalom performances behind this boat as you could with a boat that costs $5,000 more. It?s that good. It?s certainly not a compromise when it comes to skiability. There are fewer intricate features than most of our boats, but for 2001 it has an upgraded interior, removable back seat that goes up to a sun pad, electromechanical gauges, accent color, comes with 310 EFI engine, and black dash.

Comments
Slalom skiers of all abilities will like this boat. This boat is fast out of the hole and can easily handle skiers of all sizes. When a skier is done with his or her set or falls, the 19 Skier whips around with authority, which is one of the reasons why its handling characteristics are top-notch.
Tracking 1.5
Spray 1
Chill Factor
Has a smaller cockpit than the ProStar 190, but the sporty look and the comparable responsiveness and skiability make the 19 Skier a viable choice for the price. The passenger seat has a nice taper to it, making it accessible and roomy. Skiers will like the side compartments for easy storage. The removable back seat easily converts to a sun pad.
Summary
Summary One of the most storied hull designs in skiing history hasn?t lost any of its skiability as the industry trends towards wider, longer boats. This is a pure ski boat with no spray and virtually unbeatable wakes in the short line lengths. The Indmar Predator fuel-injected 310 really moves this boat with lightning response and acceleration. While we can?t say its interior is as refined as some other MasterCrafts, it?s every bit as well made, solid and responsive. You still feel like you are in a MasterCraft. Although it?s a small boat, it skis big time.
