Pro Star 209 — Sammy Duvall Video

WSM: Describe this boat?

MasterCraft: We see this boat for the family that loves water sports and wants to do everything with their boat from slalom to wakeboarding to cruising the lake. I don?t want to call it a turbo station wagon, but it?s not a Porsche and it?s not an SUV. It?s a little bit of both.

We feel we did a great job of making a high-performance boat as big as we could make it. Any bigger and it would fall out of the high-performance category. It is the same boat as the 209 with some upgrades basically identical to the way we upgrade the Sammy Duvall 190 vs. the standard Prostar190 EVO. It comes standard with the upgraded engine with 10 more horsepower and a Cadillac Northstar ignition system.

The exterior is done in a metalflake and the interior is a slightly more supple lambskin vinyl. We also use polished aluminum throughout the boat on things like the dash, pylon, throttle knob, etc. The steering wheel is leather wrapped with polished aluminum spokes. The Sammys have an upgraded trailer as well.

Does the Sammy 209 use any special construction techniques?

This is built just like every boat we build ? all hand-laid fiberglass full inner-hull liner, stringers which are primary-bonded in the hull, in-tank fuel pumps, rack-and-pinion steering and plush 40-oz. carpeting.

The 209s feature the positive pressure tracking system, which is a dual-wing rudder. That creates a little lift in the stern to provide you better tracking (because the front of the boat is in the water more).

Ergonomically, it?s a comfortable boat because of the softer, supple vinyl. The driver?s seat has the Masterview bolster seating to gain height if necessary and a recessed footwell that drains into the bilge for a lower center of gravity. All our driver?s seats are made from a one-piece rotocast seat that will never rot or deform. They utilize a new reticulated foam that allows water to filter through so the seats don?t stay wet.

Slalom

This boat skis well for a larger boat. It is especially impressive in the 28 off and shorter lengths but is not limited to short-line skiing. At slower speeds the wide hull stays above the water and keeps the wakes pretty soft. For a combination of comfort in the boat and comfort behind the boat, the 209 is great for a family who likes to relax in the boat as much as they ski.

Wakeboard

Sammy Duvall must be turning into a wakeboarder. He is no doubt aware that this luxury statement, when weighted, puts out almost as nice a wake as we?ve seen. Any rider short of a pro will be more than satisfied with the full shape and gentle transition this wake offers. The split trunk is good for storing one full sac, and you can put another under the sundeck seat.

Chill Factor

We didn?t know whether to be more impressed with the versatility or the luxury of this boat. Its ample width gives it tons of room around the engine box, and the luxurious appointments make this a great boat for chilling. With all the storage room you aren?t tripping over gear. The direct-drive performance combined with the Sammy styling make this a great boat.

Summary

This is the boat that happens when a record-setting skier like Sammy Duvall has a family as well as skiing partners. This fully loaded version of the hot-performing 209 gets even hotter with its engine upgraded to the chrome-topped 5.7 liter multi-port LTR Mastercraft EFI with Northstar ignition and 330hp. Back that up with the stylish monochromatic interior and stunning metalflake exterior, the low-profile dash, great course visibility, lightning throttle response, clamshell engine cover and of course the extra room the 96- inch beam provides and you have a boat that more than just serious skiers will love. For 33 years, MasterCraft has been trying to make the ultimate ski boat. Perhaps they can now rest.
