Legendary LaPoint
Recommendations:
Hardcore Slalom
Centurion claims this is a pure tournament boat for real, hard-core three-event skiers. Centurion’s LaPoint is built on the proven design of the Eclipse and is making a name for itself in the tournament arena by becoming eligible to tow the 2002 Collegiate Nationals.
As one of the few true closed-bow tournament inboards in the test, the Lapoint seemed fairly roomy with its 93-inch beam. The interior is functionally laid out with traditional storage configurations. It has a sleek dash and gauge package and the driver has adequate legroom. The LaPoint features Centurion’s Integrated Composite System construction, in which all the modules of the boat are integrated together with Plexus adhesive to create a lighter, stronger boat with exact tolerances. The mini step-through ties the boat together, giving it a solid feel in chop. Where the LaPoint really stands out is in its handling. This boat can handle the tightest turn-arounds and is one of the best-handling boats we’ve tested.
Overall, this is an incredible slalom boat. We found the extreme handling of the LaPoint took getting used to, but this boat has small and really soft wakes, plus the tracking is great through the course. If you aren’t running the course, the LaPoint can just as easily be good for the recreational skiing family. But, we like it most for the serious, tournament-minded skier who wants a slalom workhorse.
