MasterCraft doesn’t even hesitate to state that if you aspire to be a serious wakeboarder – or are the parent of someone who does – you need the X-Star. This is the boat that pulls the U.S. Pro Wakeboarding Tour, the X-Games, the Van’s Triple Crown of Wakeboarding and Boardstock. So, if you are serious about riding at a high level, training behind an X-Star is almost a must.
For 2002, the X-Star received a few modifications even though none were really needed. The new Triple KGB ballast system has improved pumps and puncture-resistant bags. The Zeroflex Flyer tower now comes with built-in board racks. The X-Star comes loaded with killer features like the custom dash with Perfect Pass Wakeboard Pro, a remote control placed properly at the fingertips of your throttle hand. The four Clarion Marine speakers sound awesome because they have separate tweeters for cleaner sound.
The key to the X-Star’s popularity is not necessarily how large you can make the wakes, but rather how solid. The wake is thick and dense so you can really push off it. The lip is not very peaky, so it’s really good for big spin tricks as well as inverts. With the triple KGB ballast system filled, you will have enough wake for most riders. With some additional weight in the forward ski locker and more on each side of the engine, you can have a world-class wakes.
UPSIDE
The official towboat of the U.S. Pro Wakeboard Tour. World-class wakeboarding wakes in every regard – big, smooth, wide and with great transition.
The narrow hull design allows the driver to take full advantage of slalom attributes like maneuverability and tracking.
With the V-drive configuration, there is ample storage and walk-around room throughout the cockpit.
A spacious three-piece sun deck accommodates multiple sunbathers.
The ZeroFlex Flyer tower design easily folds down and matches the contours of the wind shield, enhancing driver visibility.
The stereo controls at the driver’s fingertips offer increased functionality while on the go.
DOWNSIDE
There are no grab rails in the main cockpit for those high-powered turns.
A cooler is a needed feature for those hot days out on the lake.
In the rear storage compartment bolt heads could prove to be hard on equipment or fat sacs.
