A ski boat, a sleeping bag and a box of
Power Bars. You can boil your life down to those three things if
you’re on a budget and need to sell your house and forgo food
in order to afford a new boat.

But if you’re not insane and
you’d like to keep your house and keep eating, we recommend
checking out the economy-priced Sport Bowrider. This entry-level
family and ski boat harks back to the classic design of the
Centurion Falcon, which pulled both the U.S. Nationals and U.S.
Open its first year in production. With these credentials,
you’d expect top-level slalom wakes — and you get
them.

The wakes are fairly soft and narrow and
the tracking holds a good line for aggressive skiers who are known
to give the pylon a yank. Beginners can learn quickly with these
easy conditions, and the more serious skiers won’t feel
shortchanged. We could tell the money is going straight into the
wake performance.

The interior fulfills your basic needs.
A clean dash makes for quick, easy viewing of dual Faria tournament
speedos, a tach, a small clock and a four-in-one gauge. The
straight-up, hinged observer’s seat isn’t the most
comfortable, but it opens up for spacious storage. The ski locker
is located in the walk-through and the rear trunk opens from inside
the cockpit. Front storage easily holds a quiver of skis. For
passengers, there’s room for a crew of eight to cozy up
inside. And the standout in-gel graphics are sure to please
onlookers and passengers alike.

The relatively low cost of the Bowrider
doesn’t mean buyers should expect bargain-basement quality.
Actually, you get more than what you pay for.

The Lowdown:

  • Priced to sell without the cheapo quality, this boat is great
for new boat buyers or the budget-minded.

  • Seriously soft wakes are good for beginners and hard-core skiers
    alike.

  • Storage aplenty, with large forward storage, underseat room and
    more in back.

  • Clean gauge package features classy Faria components and great
    visibility.

  • Enough room for a full crew — bring the whole family or
    your favorite ski buds

  • Centurion’s best combination of value and water-sports
    performance.
