If
you know Regal, the company that builds luxury sport cruisers and
yachts, you may be wondering what the heck it’s doing in our
boat tests. We were, too, until we were blown away by its first
entry into the water-sports market, the Regal Session 22Xi.
The
innovative interior is one of the best we’ve ever seen. Regal
has created a floating wakeboarding arena complete with
stadium-style seating. Our favorite area is the “Sky
Box” directly behind the dual bucket-seat cockpit. The
aft-facing bench not only offers a great view of the rider,
it’s the perfect spot to immerse yourself in the
patent-pending multimedia surround-sound theater, an unprecedented
feature. The center can be fully outfitted with a 10-inch
flat-screen TV, eight speakers, a subwoofer and a range of
components and audio/video jacks to rock the party with CDs, MP3s,
DVDs, TV and video games.
If
you want to sit courtside, try the two patent-pending flip-up seats
on the transom. Or get a bird’s-eye view from the
“upper deck” open bow. And when it’s your turn
behind the boat, Regal has rider-friendly touches in the
swim-platform staging area, including a seat cushion on the back
edge of the boat and a stinger wedge to help take off your
bindings.
The
wake performance is high-class, too. The four-tank ballast system
fills with up to 1,000 pounds of water in about three minutes, and
you can control the level of each tank through gauges on the dash.
The wakes themselves match the level of some of the best and most
established wakeboarding boats. On its first try, Regal has scored
big.
The Lowdown:

and video games.

up and customized with the four-tank variable ballast.
•Multiple super-accessible storage compartments total 56.4
cubic feet of space.
•Collapsible stainless tower has four board racks, Bimini,
TV antenna and more built in.
