For a boat that’s a little bit runabout, a little bit rock
’n’ roll, we like the Kamberra Walkabout. It’s
designed to please Mom, Dad and their nine kids who want to get
their feet wet with water sports.
The Kamberra succeeds in combining family-friendly amenities
with recreational skiing and wakeboarding. The transom
walk-through, a pioneering idea for a V-drive, opens up a safe,
nonskid way to get to the swim platform without little hooligans
tumbling over a sun deck. There’s storage carved out of the
forward ski locker and tucked behind the observer’s seat. Cup
holders and grab rails are plentiful. And the boat offers a soft,
stable ride through glassy to choppy conditions.
Behind the boat, you get fun wakes, especially appropriate for
beginners getting a handle on skiing with some no-pressure
open-water time. Though the Kamberra isn’t designed for peak
ballast placement, wakeboarders up to the intermediate level can
still get a few kicks. Either way, no kid will whine,
“I’m bored.”
The Lowdown:
•Both walk-throughs, to the open bow and to the swim
platform, make getting around the boat very easy.
•Has the same driver’s console of full
instrumentation and dual tournament speedos as the Outback and
Mobius models.
•Generous storage space is tucked under the in-floor ski
locker and underneath the cockpit seat.
•Has power and handling expected of a inboard with the
social cockpit of a luxury V-drive.
